LITTLE HOT CREEK

Little Hot Creek lies in the central caldera on the eastern edge of the resurgent dome (click here to see location). Waters here have been measured at as high as 200F. The small gorge is home to many hot pools inhabited by dense populations of algae and cyanobacterial mats such as those pictured below.
