LAB 2:	ROCK IDENTIFICATION



Instructions

1.	Complete the assigned readings.

2.	Identify the 23 rocks during the next one and a half lab periods.
	NOTE:  the three rock identification forms provided on the following pages apply
	to the three different types of rocks:  igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.  BE
	SURE TO use the appropriate sheet for each rock.

3.	Procedure:

	Use the same technique as with the minerals.  There are 3 sets of rocks.  Study
	and identify them in this order;

		Igneous rocks (10 samples)
		Sedimentary rocks (7 samples)
		Metamorphic rocks (6 samples)

4.	A quiz on mineral and rock identification will be held at the beginning of the lab
	period on the week of October 16.
