X-RAY DIFFRACTION

The Earth and Planetary Sciences department maintains a Philips/Norelco X-ray diffractometer that has been upgraded to PC operation with TXRD software by Omni Instruments, which includes background smoothing and removal tools, peak find and deconvolution capabilities, and stick-pattern plotting for phase identification.  High voltage is produced by a compact, modern, solid-state 60KV supply, giving state-of-the-art stability and reliability. The system is enclosed with safety shielding and electrically-actuated shutters are remotely activated and interlocked with the shielding for safety.
